The First Kolbs

The first Kolbs in Pennsylvania were the Mennonite sons of Dielman Kolb of Wolfsheim, arriving in 1707, initially settled in Germantown, located north of Philadelphia. They later moved out to Skippack, in Montgomery County, with one of the brothers moving again to settle on the Pee Dee River in South Carolina.

More Kolbs soon came. Descendants of Johannes Adam Kolb of Meckesheim settled in northern Montgomery and Lehigh County. Other early Kolb families in Montgomery County were members of the German Reformed congregations of Old Goshenhoppen, New Goshenhoppen and Faulkner’s Swamp.
