Our Ancestors in America: Jacob Kolb
Representing the 2nd Generation
Jacob Kolb was born in Germany on May 21, 1685. He came to America in 1707 and first located at Germantown. Two years later he settled in the Skippack region. He married Sarah Van Sintern, sister of the wife of Martin Kolb, on May 2, 1710. The ceremony was performed in the old log Mennonite Church at Germantown in the presence of a full congregation. Dirk Keyser officiated.
An obituary notice of Jacob Kolb says, “On the 4rh instant, October 1739, Jacob Kolb of Skippack, as he was pressing cider, the beam of the press fell on one side of his head and shoulder and wounded him so he languished about half an hour and then died, to the exceeding grief of his relatives and family, who are numerous, and concern of his friends and neighbors, among whom he lived many years in great esteem.”
Like his brother, Martin, he was a trustee of the Skippack Mennonite Congregation as early as 1717. He died at the age of 54 years. His children were: Isaac , Agnes, Elizabeth, Ellen, Heinrich, Maria, Dillman, Magdalena and Sara.
